NSS SYMBOL

The NSS symbol stands for continuity as well as change and signifies the continuous striving of the National Service Scheme towards social transformation, upliftment, and national integration.

NSS Day

NSS Day is observed every year on 24th September with various programmes, awareness campaigns, community service activities, cultural events, and volunteer initiatives throughout the country.

About National Service Scheme

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a significant extracurricular programme that extends learning beyond the traditional classroom. Teachers serve as guides and coordinators, while students actively participate in community service, environmental conservation, and various social welfare activities.

Through NSS, students develop leadership qualities, teamwork, discipline, social responsibility, and the ability to identify and solve community problems. The programme nurtures civic sense, promotes community participation, and strengthens students' understanding of social and environmental realities. Recognizing its vital role in nation-building, continuous efforts are made to increase student participation, diversify activities, and organize more impactful events.

NSS Student Volunteer & Certificate

An NSS volunteer is required to complete 120 hours of social service in one academic year or 240 hours over two years, including participation in regular activities and a Special Camp. Volunteers should possess a thorough understanding of the objectives and philosophy of NSS.

On successful completion of 240 hours of regular and special activities, the volunteer becomes eligible for the NSS Certificate, which recognizes dedicated service to society.

Role of the Programme Officer

The Programme Officer (P.O.) functions as an organizer, educator, coordinator, mentor, and administrator. The Programme Officer guides volunteers, plans and supervises NSS activities, and ensures the effective implementation of programmes that benefit both students and society.

Activities (Session 2026–2027)

• • Orientation Programme for First-Year Students
  An orientation programme will be organized for newly admitted first-year students in July 2026 to introduce them to the objectives, activities, and significance of the National Service Scheme (NSS). Students will be informed about volunteer registration, regular activities, special camps, and the benefits of obtaining an NSS certificate.
